Kansas Sunflower How-To von Becky in VA

I was born in Kansas so this block is special to me and a great place to use a piece of sunflower fabric I've had for 20 years.

I handpieced this block. (Draw around each template and sew on the line, or just inside it.) Sew piece 1 to 2, 2 to 3, etc., then sew in the pie shaped pieces and set it aside. Sew together the 4 outside corner pieces - the seams are very short! Mark centers of the the top, bottom and sides of your pieced sunflower and match those to the seams in outer piece. Sew your sunflower into the outer circle. Make your center circle (turn under the edges) so it finishes 2 inches and applique in it place. Done! Then make another block!

I actually made the purple one first and pieced in the center circle. When I made this one I appliqued the center circle on and it looked much better.

The block looks harder than it actually is. A challenge can be good and this is nothing compared to the challenges the women had fighting for our right to vote! Thread those needles, take your time and enjoy!
